Jasmohan S. Bajaj, MD, is Professor of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Virginia Commonwealth University and Richmond VA Medical Center. He is a Fellow of ACG, AASLD, AGA, and the Royal College of Physicians in London. Dr Bajaj is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Gastroenterology. Dr. Bajaj earned his MBBS from Delhi University in India. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Delhi University and an internal medicine residency at the State University of New York Health Science Center in Brooklyn. He furthered his medical training with a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, then went on to earn an MS in epidemiology at the same institution. Active in research, Dr. Bajaj has served as a principal investigator for numerous clinical trials in hepatic encephalopathy, chronic liver disease, and microbiome. His research has been funded through the NIH, Veterans Affairs, AHRQ, and ACG. His work has been published in Gastroenterology, Nature, Hepatology, Nature Communications, American Journal of Gastroenterology, and Journal of Hepatology, among others. Dr. Bajaj frequently presents his work on hepatic encephalopathy, microbiota, and chronic liver disease nationally and internationally at meetings, grand rounds, and symposia. He was a member of the AASLD Hepatic Encephalopathy Guidelines Writing Committee and headed the ACG ACLF Guidelines Committee. He was also a member of AASLD ACLF Guidance Writing Committee. Dr Bajaj is the Chair of the North American Consortium for Study of End-stage Liver Disease, PI of the International CLEARED Consortium, and was the President of the International Society for Hepatic Encephalopathy. He has been elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation.
